This is a community space for musicians, music educators, and other interested folks to learn about and discuss the sound and listening pedagogies of R. Murray Schafer and Pauline Oliveros. We will listen more deliberately to our own soundscapes and explore differences in how we hear. I am hoping that the work we do might push against colonial institutional definitions of music.
Beginning in July 2020 I posted three short weekly podcasts introducing the sound and listening pedagogies of R. Murray Schafer and Pauline Oliveros along with updates and criticisms of their work. I included listening and sound exercises each week and invited participants to post sounds, descriptions and remixes as well as comment on posts from others. You are still welcome to do so!
The project will pause in August 2020. After this I plan to continue collaboratively. I hope that members of this community will work along with me to record new podcasts (with reflections, questions, and creative challenges).
